Earth Day is for Earth Children! This Sunday, April 22, 2012, people all over the world will celebrate a modern holiday called Earth Day. This holiday is all about loving and taking good care of our Mother Earth. It all started on April 20, 1970, back in the time of the Hippies and the Flower Children. People were upset and angry about a war the United States fought in for a long time. They wanted the war to end. The more they thought about the waste and destruction in war, the more they started thinking about Mother Earth herself. People started to notice air pollution and think it was not okay. They began to notice how the water was getting dirty from factories and waste. They all got together to have a big party to celebrate Mother Earth and to teach and learn ways to take better care of Her. The first Earth Day was a big success and it is still a wonderful and powerful holiday today.
